the girl with hair like moonlight

Shoshanna stared at the child. She had never seen another in the Ganz Machen Hall before.

“Others,” said the youth, pointing behind her. She turned, searching the dark emptiness. A chill ran through her body.

“Others? I see no one.” The path to the door was visible, but only as a dim island of light. She spun back around and found the child gone.

“Hello?” Shoshanna bent forward, eyes narrowing, attempting to see in the darkness. What is…? She jumped back with a gasp.

A tall veiled figure had been standing there, just beyond the reach of light. The long pointed black hood, the exposed pale chin, and the blue lips were just visible.

From her hiding spot, Shoshanna looked around the stone and found the thing rising above the iron fences. It stood in place, mumbling. All she could make out was the top of its white headdress.

Her attention had been so focused on other things that she hadn’t noticed the black-haired girl’s staring at her leg. So when the girl blurted out “Sooo bleedy,” jabbed her finger into a hole in Shoshanna’s legging, and pulled it out covered in blood, Shoshanna couldn’t help but let out a yelp. Drops of red dappled the ground around her.

Shoshanna’s head moved to follow the red trail. When she peeked around the edge of the sarcophagus, she found the being staring down at her with its beautiful, expressionless face.
